Natural disaster can occur at any time without a moments notice.  Whose responsibility is it for the general population to be prepared when it does occur?

If one believes it is the government’s place to rescue us after the occurrence of a disaster… think about this.

Hurricane Katrina… The local, state, and federal governments were ill prepared for an immediate rescue.  People were without food, water and lodging for a number of days.

Nisqually Quake… we were very fortunate.  The disaster was mostly to property, but the question still remains, how prepared are you if you are away from your home and resources?

How prepared is the general population if we should have a disastrous earthquake or another natural disaster, such as a tsunami or if one of our local volcanoes decides to explode again?

The standard put forth by our governments indicates to us that we should have at least a three day supply of emergency food and water and at least one gallon of water per person per day.
